When we eat garlic, the body creates the compound allicin, which is where the typical smell of garlic comes from. Allicin spreads all around the body via the bloodstream. As well as causing bad breath, it is emitted from the body via the skin and lungs. Milk is good at neutralizing garlic breath, especially when drunk with the meal. The fats contained in the milk prohibit the proliferation of sulfur compounds such as allicin. Chewing sage leaves is another effective remedy.
