Water is the key!

While bad luck isn’t something you can simply change, bad breath can be solved by drinking plenty of fluids.

Drinking plenty of fluids activates the salivary glands. As well as flushing away bacteria that may contribute to unwelcome odours in the mouth and throat, it actually prevents the bacteria from forming in the first place. Adults should drink at least two litres of water each day. Soft drinks don’t help – the following beverages do:

  • Peppermint tea contains essential oils that stimulate healthy oral flora.
  • Green tea and black tea contain theaflavin, which hinders bacteria growth.
  • Citrus fruit juices such as orange juice and grapefruit juice are good to drink when fasting. These juices refresh your mouth, activate the salivary glands and reduce bacterial activity.
  • Elderflower tea is able to neutralize unpleasant odours.
