How-To
When it comes to growing herbs, bees and insects play a vital role. Build your own bee hotel and help support and grow your local bee population.
Bee Hotel
One bee hotel
1
Ricola tin
3-6
Bamboo canes
1-2 m
Thick string
Saw
Electric screwdriver
Pencil
Meter ruler
1. Use the saw to cut the bamboo canes to slightly shorter than the Ricola tin.
2. Use a wood drill to hollow out the canes to allow the bees to nest inside.
3. Drill a hole in the bottom of the Ricola tin and thread the string through.
4. Arrange the bamboo canes in the tin. Make sure the canes are fitted securely and can’t be pulled out by birds.
5. Bees prefer warm, dry conditions, so place the bee hotel somewhere sheltered that gets lots of sunshine.
6. Leave the bee hotel outside during winter so you don’t disturb the bees during hibernation.
